When a domain expires, domain owners are given 40-day grace period to renew their domains. However, if the domain is not renewed, it will then enter the Redemption or restoration Period. This period usually lasts 30 days and the owner of the domain is able to renew anytime during that time frame, but needs to pay Redemption Renewal Fee plus the original domain renewal fee. Once your domain is expired and has been released for public registration, your domain will go back to 0 page rank and to re-gain the previous ranking you will be needing extra effort for the page rank to go high again.
