Facebook roll out HTTPS by default to all users, announced last Week, Users will start to see ‘https://facebook.com’ at the top of their browser window. Keeping you safe on the big bad World Wide Web from account hijacking attacks over insecure networks and also stops the governments of some countries from spying on the Facebook activities of their residents. ”As announced last year, we are moving to HTTPS for all users,” Facebook platform engineer Shireesh Asthana said Thursday in a blog post that also described many other platform changes and bug fixes relevant to developers. “This week, we’re starting to roll out HTTPS for all North America users and will be soon rolling out to the rest of the world.”

The platform provides increased standards by allowing data to stay encrypted, even as it’s transferred although as a result encrypted pages take longer to load which means users will almost certainly notice some slowing of the site so, be patient it is better browsing a secure Facebook than not. Still, anyone that wants to opt out can.

HTTPS, commonly used by banks and e-commerce sites, automatically encrypts communications, preventing hackers and attackers from acquiring out sensitive data when people use unencrypted wifi hotspots. The move was said announced in May of last year, but it didn’t begin implementation until last week. Google made a similar move to HTTPS on Gmail in January last year, and Twitter has also made the change.

Have a safe and secure browsing experience from your Facebook and other social media paltforms!

Reminder from Philippine Web Hosting Provider: Please use HTTPS unless you have an extremely good reason to do otherwise  (such as reliance on third-party apps which don’t support HTTPS).
