When you got stuck and forgot your admin password, but still have an access to the database. Here is a helpful tip on how you can reset your access.

Pre-requisite:

  • Recent Database Backup (Important)
  • Patience (and a whole lot of it!)
  • Access to cPanel where phpmyadmin is located
  • Access to phpmyadmin

We made sure you give importance to backup, just in case anything goes wrong, you can always revert back to the last known good working backup.

Now for the steps

Easily change the admin password via phpmyadmin.

  1. Once logged in to your cPanel, click the phpmyadmin icon
  2. Select the WordPress database (Example: domain_wprdp1)
  3. On the left side menu select the table “wp_user” to browse the content

    You should see the admin password in encrypted formate like this.

  4. Click the edit button(highlighted in blue color).
  5. Edit the the current with the following details.

    21232f297a57a5a743894a0e4a801fc3 (This is the encrypted key for password “admin”)

  6. Then clik the go button.

    Password change has completed!

Now you should be able to log in to the wordpress admin with the following credentials.

User: admin and Password: admin
