The tremendous popularity of social networking sites has quadruple for the last 5 years and becoming universal in both personal and business activities. MySpace, Face book, twitter to name some are the social network sites that are also a prime target of scams, malware and a vector of attack due to volume of users and the amount of information that is posted on the users account.

Make a habit to keep your system updated, including anti-virus and anti-spyware software, and a firewall, Set the configuration to “auto update” so patches can be applied automatically without intervention.

Protect your social networking sites with strong password and do not use it to your other sites.

Avoid scams and be wary when contacted on a social networking site with a request for money or with an offer that’s surprisingly good.

Protect your privacy and make a habit of reading the site’s policy and be cautious if it is vague. Remember do not assume privacy on social networking sites.

Do not give personal Information including username and password to any email request.

Avoid installing applications particularly in games which the social networking sites are most popular for. Remove apps that is no longer active.
