Instagram profiles on the Web
Instagram the hottest mobile application in the world, developed by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, it is a free photo sharing application that allows people to take a photo, apply digital filter and share it to social media entities. Instagram wasn’t the first, or the only, mobile app offering people a way to share their photos on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr. Nor was its use of filters to add visual effects to those shots a new idea. But what made it stand out was its success. Now the popular photo application has major expansion of its services on Monday, signaling that it would provide users with website profiles.
“Your web profile features a selection of your recently shared photographs just above your profile photo and bio, giving others a snapshot of the photos you share on Instagram. In addition, you can follow users, comment & like photos and edit your profile easily and directly from the web. It’s a beautiful new way to share your Instagram photos!,” stated Instagram via its blog.
Launched in October 2010, Instagram was an instant hit. Over 30m people have downloaded the app now. When the firm launched an Android version earlier this month, it attracted 1m downloads in 12 hours. People love sharing their photos online and making them look like their Dad took them in 1980 with a camera he borrowed from his dad. Now Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger have made their fortunes a couple of 20-somethings turn less than two years of work into a $1bn (£630m) fortune.
Social media giant Facebook bought Instagram for a reported price of $1 million in April. The photo service initially only included user pages via applications on iOS and Android. The company says it expects the profiles to be rolled out within the coming days.
